Navel gazing

In reference to Suzette's comment that the bagels we made really puffed up, I remembered that there is an expression for bagels which really puff up a lot, so much so that they lose their centre hole. They develop a "pupik" which is the Yiddish word for "belly button". While making the bagels Soy noticed one had a pupik and pointed out to Zac where Zac's pupik is. Zac spent all weekend (and most of yesterday) lifting up his shirt and pointing out his pupik to anyone who would look.

In a delightfully cute way, pupik is also an expression for beloved little people. Zac's great grandmother, Lucia, calls him "pupik".

May all your future bagels develop pupiks.
